About Game Mode

Free Solo Mode is one of the greatest challenges a climber can face. This mode prevents the use of ropes, coffee, chalk and the pipe, as well as adding the same punishment as You Fall You Die Mode, where if you blackout from a fall, your save file is deleted. Completing this mode rewards you with the golden alpine ice axes.

Strategy

Start off with Old Grove's Skelf, as this unlocks the crampons immediately, helping speed up the process of the fundamentals greatly.

Next, completing the fundamentals in order of what you find to be the hardest first, then doing the easier ones after, until you have completed 15 fundamentals and unlocked the intermediate peaks.

Complete Leaning Spire first out of the bouldering levels, as this is the only boulder where there is a risk of death, then continue in whatever order you want to do until advanced peaks are unlocked.

Begin the advanced peaks with Eldenhorn, as it is the hardest advanced peak. After this, complete Walker's Pillar and Great Gaol to unlock the 10 point crampons with very little risk, as Walker's Pillar is very easy and Great Gaol is very safe. Then complete St. Haelga and Ymir's Shadow last, as these are made significantly easier with the 10 point crampons and are relatively safe as there are many holds to catch should you fall.

Finally, you can either clear up all of your uncompleted fundamental and intermediate peaks before making your way to The Great Bulwark and The Solemn Tempest or complete them after since dying to them is almost impossible.

Trivia

In the official Peaks of Yore Discord server, completing this mode used to result in you getting the 'Living Legend' role, however it was discontinued due to difficulty of proof and it being very easy to cheat.
