The Great Bulwark of the North is an Unconquered/Abominable peak from the Expert book. It is the first of the 2 expert peaks in the game, serving as the tutorial level for The Great Solemn Tempest. This peak introduces ice patches and icicles.

About Peak

The second to last Peak in the entire game, the Great Bulwark , serves as an introduction to the Ice Axes as well as being a little teaser to how the Solemn Tempest will play out. The Mountain features many icicles, ice patches, rocks that drain your grip and many hard jumps and holds.

Strategy

The most important things to do before attempting this peak, is getting most, if not all collectibles so you have more ropes, chalk and coffee, you will need to preserve ropes because of the length of the Great Bulwark so it would be best if you have all 42 ropes. Another important thing is to stay calm and not panic if you fall, there are some places, like a big ice wall at about 600 meters, where you can catch yourself. This peak will be the hardest challenge before The Solemn Tempest so you should climb all peaks and definitely, perfect your movement. A very useful item are the 10-point Crampons as these allow you to jump higher with CTRL, you can get these by completing a few peaks of the third book.. The last stretch consists of multiple side-to-side jumps between ice patches, although, if you fall you will be able to grab onto a rock or a ice patch. If you use all your knowledge you gathered up to this point and use the resources you have, you will be able to conquer this peak, place the flag and collect your stamp.

Tips

YFYD Tips

Clear any snow and break any fragile icicles before proceeding. Take your time and use crampons to rest in the wall to regain stamina if needed.
