Gray Gully
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” - THOMAS EDISON |
Gray Gully is a moderate peak from the fundamentals book. It introduces tumbleweed. and the fourth peak overall in Peaks of Yore. It serves as an introduction to the concept of forks and multiple paths on a single peak, though one side only leads to a collectible. It is the first Moderately graded peak.
About Peak
he Grey Gully is a relatively small section of rock within a wooded ravine; "Gully" being an alternate word for ravine, with slight differences on formation and placement between the two. It contains large handholds occasionally covered by an errant dead bush which can be removed by the player. Later on in the climb, near the peak, there is a slight overhang that the player can navigate.
The first Moderate peak, it allows you to refine your skills at swing momentum and pulling-up. The Grey Gully introduces the player to two new characters: brothers Archie and Douglas Pearse, who are always seen together.
Of the two routes up, the left path leads to a collectible at the cost of being harder, whilst the right is the main route and relatively easier.
Strategy
When you first arrive, it may seem quite high. Considering the holds are further than they usually are, you may sometimes have to use swing momentum or the pull-up technique. Before you go on a hold, make sure there is no tumbleweed on the hold. If there is, use your hands to take the tumbleweed off the hold. Then, you can grab onto the hold safely without any risk. Keep doing that until you reach the ledge, which after you can come up and collect the stamp.
Tips
YFYD Tips
Try to remove as much tumbleweed as you can, so there is room for your hands on holds.
