Old Mill
“When preparing to climb a mountain - pack a light heart.” - DAN MAY |
Old Mill is an easy peak from the fundamentals book. and the third peak overall in Peaks of Yore. The Old Mill serves as an introduction to collectibles, along with the first time you meet Walter, a fellow climber in the game. The Mill itself features 4 massive wings rotating counterclockwise, on which you can grip freely.
About Peak
The Old Mill is, as the name implies, an old grain mill on which a large windmill is installed. The wings rotate freely and are not encumbered by the player's position on them. The player does not rotate with the windmill, thus won't turn upside-down as one would expect by not changing grip on a rotating plane. The mill building itself cannot be gripped whatsoever.
Though stated in the description, grip strength is not a mechanic used in the level. Thus, all grips are safe and are not crimps or sloped grips.
Strategy
While the movement of the wings may seem intimidating, you do not lose grip strength nor have to worry about shifting your holds around while rotating; you can take as long as you want while on the wings. The stamp is on the roof the windmill building.
The most consistent strategy is to grip the 'inside' of the wings (the side facing the building) and wait to get to the highest point of the rotation. To move toward the stamp, turn around (this may require a small adjustment to grip), and either jump or move towards the roof. By doing this, you should land on top of the building to collect your stamp.
